Lake Kariba

One of the world's largest man-made lakes β€” houseboats, tiger fishing, and spectacular sunsets

Overview

Lake Kariba stretches 220km along the Zambia-Zimbabwe border, created by the Kariba Dam in 1958. It is one of the world's largest man-made lakes by volume. The Zambian side β€” quieter and less developed than Zimbabwe's β€” offers an authentic, uncrowded lake experience centered around the resort town of Siavonga.

The lake is famous for its tiger fishing, spectacular sunsets over drowned trees, houseboat holidays, and the Kariba Dam wall itself β€” an engineering marvel. The surrounding hills are home to elephant, buffalo, and diverse birdlife, making it a perfect combination of relaxation and wildlife.

Best Time to Visit
